The Mater is the only private in hospital in Sydney able to offer patients a designated obstetric theatre. This provides an added level of safety for mothers and their newborns.

Strategically located between the Birth Suites and the Poche Van Norton Special Care Nursery, the theatre ensures a smooth transition between these areas, which is crucial in emergencies. The facility includes two purpose-built private recovery bays, allowing uninterrupted skin-to-skin contact between mothers and their newborns in a calm and nurturing environment.

While most women experience uncomplicated natural births, the Pagent Family Obstetric Theatre is essential for those who encounter complications. It complements the state-of-the-art Poche Van Norton Special Care Nursery, which cares for premature babies and for those who require specialised support. Staffed by dedicated special care nurses and an on-site neonatal paediatrician, the nursery provides comprehensive care for babies born up to two months early.
